Recently, nearly 50,000 Chinese-made mattresses were recalled and destroyed due to non-compliance with safety standards.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a notice recalling a total of 48,405 Kesyup brand compressed packaging mattresses. These mattresses were sold on Amazon and manufactured by S-Q Business (HK) Limited (doing business as ZCK01). The recall covers products sold from December 2024 to April 2026, with a thickness of 12 inches and available in Twin, Full, Queen, and King sizes. The price range was between $100 and $200. The product features a white top with blue side strips and edges, and a sewn label with "Prototype ID." The mattresses were packaged in compressed boxes.

The reason for the recall is that this batch of mattresses does not meet the mandatory flame retardant standards in the United States, posing a fire risk and potentially causing serious injury or death. To date, no injury reports have been received. U.S. regulations clearly require that mattresses and bedding sold in the country must pass two flame retardant tests: one to assess the product's ability to resist ignition when in contact with open flames such as cigarettes, and another to evaluate the burning situation after a 30-minute test. The recall plan requires consumers who have purchased the product to contact the manufacturer for a full refund and follow the specified process for handling the involved products.

This incident once again highlights the safety and compliance issues in the cross-border e-commerce furniture category and reminds Chinese manufacturers that quality control of exported products cannot be limited to the production process. It is also necessary to adapt to the regulatory requirements and testing standards of the target market in advance.
