  He hails from a family of artisans in Anhui, China. At 19, he ventured north to Beijing, starting his career as a carpenter. After experiencing the fast-paced environment of commercial chain stores, he eventually deepened his roots in the home improvement field. Zhu Lin, born in 1989, is a young master craftsman. In the highly competitive Beijing home improvement market, he adheres to the philosophy of "the best after-sales service is no after-sales service," winning the deep trust and long-term commitment of his clients with his industry-leading craftsmanship and a customer-centric service philosophy.

  Heritage and Transformation into Commercial Construction

  Zhu Lin was born in Anhui, where his family has been engaged in the woodworking industry for three generations. Under the influence of his elders, he was familiar with wood and tools from a young age. After graduating in 2009, he came to Beijing to start a business with his family members. Initially learning carpentry, he made a decisive shift to electrical and plumbing engineering due to market demand changes. Despite the short project cycle, fast pace, and relatively lenient acceptance standards of commercial projects, Zhu Lin did not lower his standards. Years later, as the market environment changed, he gradually shifted his business focus to home improvement. He confessed that home improvement involves complex processes and high communication costs, requiring great patience, but he firmly believed: "We are working for ourselves, and we cannot play tricks or add extra charges."

  Upgrading Craftsmanship, Upholding Quality

  In the home improvement field, Zhu Lin has brought the quality consciousness he accumulated from commercial construction to its ultimate level. While his peers were still using traditional cement mortar to tile, he had already fully adopted tile adhesives, knowing the limitations of organic materials in long-term use. In wall treatment, he went beyond the ordinary leveling and first adopted the rebar technique to achieve the standard of perpendicularity. He clearly realized that low-price competition could not guarantee quality, so he declined many low-price orders.

  Once, a friend introduced him to six sets of house renovation projects. When he went to the site, he found that several small renovation companies had undertaken them for a package price of over 20,000 yuan, while his auxiliary material cost alone needed over 40,000 yuan. Zhu Lin firmly returned the keys: "I cannot ruin my reputation for such trivial matters. If I deceive, I won't have friends anymore." This unwavering commitment helped him screen out clients who truly recognized quality. Now, he undertakes over 20 home improvement projects each year, and his sources of clients are almost all from referrals from old clients and designers, with reputation becoming his most solid foundation for attracting customers.

  Putting Yourself in the Customer's Shoes: Becoming Friends with Customers

  In Zhu Lin's view, home improvement is not only a technical job but also a heart-to-heart job. He often says, "If you deceive your customers, you are deceiving yourself." There was a woman who had previously hired a large company for her home renovation, but after less than a year, the ceiling plaster fell into the pot while her family was eating hotpot. When she sought repairs from the company, they never came back. Later, after being introduced by someone, she found Zhu Lin, who not only did the work beautifully but also became friends with her through daily care and help. When her son got married, he actively gave a red envelope; when her parent was sick, he helped go to the hospital to get medicine. The woman said, "Heart to heart." Later, she introduced him to another five or six houses.

  There are many similar cases. A retired engineer who had spent a lifetime in engineering construction first came to the site every day to "snoop" when they first collaborated, from 8 am to 6 pm, chatting with the master. After the water and electricity were completed, he never came back. Zhu Lin was curious and asked, "Why don't you come anymore?" The old man said, "With your skills, I don't need to watch, they are definitely fine." Later, the old man introduced his colleagues' and neighbors' houses, and each set of house renovation cost over 500,000 yuan. When the second quotation was made, the old man even didn't look at the details and just said, "You should earn as much as you should, and I will give you a separate bonus." After working together for seven or eight years, they had long surpassed the relationship between principal and agent and had become close friends.

  The Best After-Sales Service Is No After-Sales Service

  Zhu Lin has a unique understanding of "after-sales service." He proposes: "The best after-sales service is no after-sales service." To ensure that customers can move in with peace of mind, he insists on increasing investment in the early stage—using high-quality materials, increasing worker wages, and refining every process. He believes that if quality problems arise every year after customers spend a lot of money on renovation, both parties will be troubled, so it is better to do it once and for all, so that both parties can save time and effort. For this reason, his construction sites rarely have quality disputes. Even if some customers have doubts due to network information, he will patiently explain and speak with professionalism and facts. He firmly believes that customers are not stupid, they just do not want to suspect others with malicious intent; sincerity and honesty will eventually be seen.

  Learn Without Ceasing: Advice to the Young

  Facing new entrants to the industry, Zhu Lin offers sound advice: "You must have a spirit of learning." He has observed that some practitioners have been standing still for a lifetime, while some new entrants can grow rapidly in a short time, the key being whether they are willing to learn new tools and new processes. "Why not use the new things that have emerged?" In addition, he has taken the initiative to study the second-level civil engineer course in his spare time and has delved into feng shui knowledge to better respond to the diverse needs of customers. He believes that only by continuously refining oneself can one move steadily in this industry.
