When the "Design Capital" meets the "New Design Pole in Central and Western China," how will their design thinking be "translated" to each other?

From May 20 to 22, 2026, the "Design City View" - Chengdu Station, initiated by Changsha Sina Home, Chengdu Sina Home, and Changsha Youth Design Federation (hereinafter referred to as "Changqing She"), will officially launch. This is the first stop of the national tour of the column, and also the first inter-city exchange action in which Changqing She has gone out as a "city design delegation" since its establishment.

Depart from "visiting" exchanges: reconstructing the logic of dialogue through curation

For a long time, inter-city design exchanges have been停留在 "leading a group to visit, taking photos and leaving" on the surface, lacking in-depth questioning of the underlying logic of urban design. The "Design City View" tries to break this inertia, abandon the traditional "visit" positioning, and instead invite Chengdu's design forces to participate as "urban design curators," while giving Changsha's young designers the role of "urban observers." Chengdu is the "outputter" of design language, while Changsha is the "questioner" and "translator" with preparations. Sina Home assumes the role of "recorder" and "bridge": not only presenting works but also questioning the urban context, lifestyle, and industrial ecology behind the works. A relevant person in charge of Changqing She said, "One of Changqing She's missions is to build a bridge for young designers in Changsha to go out. We don't want to be a tour group that wanders aimlessly. We want to go to another city's design soil with specific questions and real confusions to find answers."

Chengdu's debut: the sample value of the "Design Capital"

Chengdu is defined as the "Design Capital," gathering 67% of well-known design institutions in Southwest China and ranking first in the richness of creative resources in the country. In recent years, Chengdu has continuously promoted the development of the creative design industry, making it not only a new driving force for economic growth but also a continuous empowerment of urban ecological evolution. More uniquely, Chengdu has grown a set of "Chengdu-style design philosophy" rooted in the comfortable and comfortable urban temperament - not hurried, not showing off, but finding a balance between residential aesthetics and life quality. This logic of forming design language has direct reference value for Changsha, which is in the acceleration period of design iteration.

Changsha, as an important pole of design in Central and Western China, has accelerated urban renewal in recent years, and the design demand has shifted from "survival needs" to "aesthetic pursuit." Changqing She is a collective of young design forces emerging in this process - they are active between the first-line construction sites and design drawings, both enduring the pressure of market involution and maintaining the questioning of the nature of design. The two cities belong to the development sequence of Central and Western China, but there are significant differences in culture, climate, and aesthetics - this "same but different" structure makes the dialogue between the two cities have unique value: finding commonality in differences and stimulating innovation in comparison.

Changsha's design forces' "urban questions"

This Chengdu trip, the Changqing She delegation is not going empty-handed. It is revealed that before departure, Changqing She has collected a batch of "urban questions" from the first-line young designers - these real confusions will be directly thrown to Chengdu's design experts:

· "Chengdu has 'teahouse design,' Changsha has 'night life design' - which one is harder to do?"

· "In the era of full-case design, how mature is Chengdu's supply chain integration and construction support compared to Changsha? Where is the specific gap?"

· "If you were to do a project in Changsha, what would be your first thing to do?"

· "Changsha designers often encounter the dilemma of 'beautiful but hard to implement' in the local market. How do Chengdu counterparts break through?"

These questions behind are the clear understanding of the market environment by young designers in Changsha, and also the precise curiosity about the mature design ecology of Chengdu. Changqing She said, "We don't want standard answers. We want to see how they think about the problem itself."

From salon talks to immersive studio visits

The first batch of invited visits to Chengdu's design forces includes STUDIO.Y Yu Haoling Design Office Founder and Design Director Yu Haoling, Run She RESOLUTE Design Office Founder Li Xue, Duhe Space Founder Sun Kang, Chenhao Design Founder and Design Director Chen Chen, Qiao Xi Design Founder and Design Director Ou Yang Jinqiao, Li Yi Design Founder Li Jia, and so on. In Changsha, 15 representative young design institution leaders in Hunan are selected to form a delegation, covering different subfields such as residential, commercial, and full-case, including Ai Di Design Founder Tan Chuan, Design Director Lü Beibei, Wan Bu Shi Space Design Founder Li Jun, Design Director Luo Dan, Heyihe Design Founder Zhang Wentai, Anyu Design Founder An Yuxing, Heyichuangpin Founder He Weixun, Xu Hang, Zhijian Design Founder Dai Jing, Design Director Chen Ye, Banjing Space Founder Qin Li, Zonghe Jian gou Founder Suo Haoran, Huayifengshang Founder Zhang Yuxuan, Jihexin Zhaochuang Founder Yang Conghao, Wang Siyu, Jiayu Design Director Chen Liang.

It is revealed by the organizer that the "Design City View" will be progressively implemented at a quarterly rhythm, starting with Chengdu as the debut, and will expand to more cities across the country in the future. The long-term goal of the column is to build a "sample of China's urban design thinking" - transforming the isolated industry information between city and city into a warm, deep, and reproducible "urban dialogue language system." As an important organizational force in Changsha's design, Changqing She will also continue to participate in the dialogues of subsequent stations.
