On September 3, 2025, the 23rd China International Coatings Exhibition opened its doors at the New International Expo Center in Shanghai. This year's event, themed "New Quality Leadership, Technology Empowerment," aims to establish a benchmark platform for high-level communication and cooperation within the global coatings industry. During the exhibition, Sina.com invited Zhu Jun, the Chairman of Huzhou Youcai New Material Co., Ltd., for an in-depth dialogue on the company's technological innovation, capacity planning, strategic confidence, and global vision.

Huzhou Youcai New Material Co., Ltd. is one of the leading enterprises in the colorant industry in China. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Youcai Industrial, the group has three wholly-owned subsidiaries and one joint venture. It has an annual production and processing capacity of over 100,000 tons of colorants. The company offers a full range of products and services, including ferric oxide pigments, organic pigments, titanium dioxide, carbon black, color paste, and auxiliaries. These are widely used in cosmetics, paints, coatings, inks, plastics, paper, and other fields. With over two decades of industry experience, stable processes, and a professional team, the company continues to provide high-quality color solutions to its clients.

This time, Youcai focused on showcasing its innovative product – high-transparency nanometer-grade ferric oxide and its matching color paste. The product's particle size is controlled below 150 nanometers, offering excellent transparency and color effect, and can be widely used in high-end automotive paint, wooden paint, and other fields. It can be matched with aluminum silver paste and copper gold powder to achieve a metallic texture effect. To overcome the dispersion challenges of nanomaterials, the company also launched water-based, solvent-based, and wood varnish system nanometer color paste, with a D98 particle size below 150 nanometers, strong stability, and a long preservation period, greatly reducing the usage threshold for downstream customers.

Zhu Jun introduced that the company always attaches great importance to research and innovation, with annual research and development investment of 9 to 10 million yuan, accounting for more than 4% of sales. This year, the company has newly built an approximately 4,000-square-meter research and development building, which is accelerating the equipment procurement and renovation to further strengthen technical reserves. At the same time, Youcai has continuously expanded its capacity planning in the past five years: In 2021, a 10,000-ton organic pigment production line was built in Jينíng, Hunan, and now has the production capacity of azo yellow, red, and orange series products. By the end of 2023, an additional 45 acres of land was added in Huzhou, with an investment of 2.5 billion yuan to build a 55,000-ton inorganic pigment production base. Focusing on high-end products such as transparent ferric oxide, high-purity ferric oxide, heat-resistant granular materials, and pre-dispersed pigments, it is expected to reach production in early next year, forming an integrated raw material platform with an annual production capacity of 10,000 tons of organic pigments and 60,000 tons of inorganic pigments.

Despite the overall downward pressure in the industry, Zhu Jun remains confident in the company's future. He points out that the international high-end colorant market is still dominated by European and American brands. Chinese colorant enterprises, through consolidating the raw material foundation and improving product quality, have the ability to create a national brand recognized worldwide. In his view, the current period is a key window for the layout of the global supply chain – Youcai will promote the construction of a global integrated supply network with an international perspective, achieve efficient response and low inventory operation through the establishment of warehouses on the customer side and the establishment of long-term cooperation with stable agents, and truly form a stable global supply chain system covering the whole world.

Facing short-term market challenges, Zhu Jun emphasizes that the company adheres to countercyclical investment, relying on solid raw material foundations, continuous technological innovation, and a clear global path, and is committed to building "Youcai" into an important participant and value creator in the global colorant industry.
